I’m so excited to show you guys a bit of my Halloween mantel today! I’ve been working with Cricut and Oriental Trading Company to create this glam and fun Halloween banner—which I’m offering as a free SVG cut file for you!

To create this Hocus Pocus banner, I turned to Oriental Trading Company’s create-your-own section and found some simple black canvas banners. A little white felt and glitter iron-on later, and I had a super cute and modern Hocus Pocus banner to hang on my mantel. I recently did a Facebook Live where I made this banner—pop on over and give it a watch.

Hocus Pocus Banner Instructions

You have two main steps to making these banner pieces. First is to do the iron-on, second is to do the felt.

Iron-on Vinyl Spider Webs

Start by cutting out your iron-on using your Cricut. Make sure to mirror your image and place the iron-on vinyl with the shiny side down on the mat. (Read my post How to Use Cricut Iron On Vinyl). Then you’re going to weed it. Use your weeding tool to pull off all the negative space (anything that’s not spider web). I broke out my new Cricut Brightpad for this and it made the job easier, especially weeding those tiny spider webs inside the “O”s in Hocus Pocus. Learn more about weeding with the Brightpad.

Once you have your vinyl weeded, you can adhere it to the black canvas banner. This was the first project where I was able to use my Cricut EasyPress instead of my iron and it totally sold me. You can read all about it in my Cricut EasyPress post. It’s basically a safer, easier heat press, or a big square evenly-heated iron. It adhered the glitter iron-on better than I could have imagined—I’m never going back to my iron!

Felt Hocus Pocus Letters

Once you have your iron-on finished, go ahead and cut your felt. I used my Cricut Maker and its amazing rotary blade to do this. You technically can cut felt on the Cricut Explore, too—check that out in my How to Cut Felt on a Cricut post. That being said, the Cricut Maker cuts felt like butter. It’s definitely my go-to process.

Then just use a little spray glue to adhere the letters to the pennants. You can then either sew the pennants together (chain-stitch style, like this Felt Candy Corn Garland) or you can sew or glue it to some black ribbon for a more solid look. I went with the latter, but either would work!

Here are a few sneak peeks of the mantel — using some awesome finds at Oriental Trading Company! I love these glitter pumpkin votive holders. I stacked them in my office to save some space while planning everything out, and liked it so much I kept it for the mantel!
