Use your Cricut or other electronic cutting machine to make this DIY paper banner with adorable woodland creatures! Perfect for woodland parties, baby showers, and more!
These files were originally designed for a Cricut contest called Cricut Design Space Star in 2014. We had chosen “Into the Woods” as our theme. I had an idea to make some woodland cutout paper pennants, but when I started I had no idea how much I would LOVE the final product!

One of the things I love about this challenge with my Cricut Explore, is that it’s helping me stretch my graphic design skills. I have been able to putter about Illustrator for a while now, but I have really enjoyed learning new skills—how to put shapes together to create new shapes, how to use the pen tool effectively, and how to use the Pathfinder tool to mash everything together. It’s been really fun!
I originally wanted to cut the pennants on white paper to contrast with the darker fireplace, but I found some woodsy paper in my stash, so I decided to use it. I think it really works! The gold flecks in the lightest paper are particularly pretty—the paper catches the light in a way that’s hard to capture in photos.
As I was cutting my files, I was blown away by the small details that the Cricut Explore can cut without issue. I used the green StandardGrip mat and the Fine Point blade along with the “light cardstock” setting and it cut like butter. Those little dots on the center feather? Perfection.
I used a thin cream-colored bakers twine to string them together. I built the circles at the top of the pennants into my files, so that it would be easy to thread and hang them.
And lo and behold, I realized I could just flip them over and get a fabulous white version, just like I’d thought of in the first place. Love this look too!
For the white pennants, I used simple 1/8″ white ribbon to connect them.
I was chatting with Ryan about my project, and I asked him what woodland creature I was missing. Without skipping a beat, he said “Sasquatch.”
Boom. He might be my favorite. Hi there, little guy! Roar!

Hi Shelli — I haven’t released them yet. If chosen, my files will be sold through the Cricut Design Space. If not, then I will probably put them in my Etsy shop. Thanks!
