Inspire creativitywith this free printable Brick Building Challenge for kids! Using LEGO® or similar bricks, have your kid build one of the prompts from the challenge, like pizza, trucks, or a maze!
If your kids are anything like mine, they’re always building something out of LEGO—around here it’s usually a crazy vehicle of some sort, like a space ship or a monster truck. In our house, building bricks are practically a love language, and my boys can spend hours deep in creative construction mode. That’s exactly why I created this Printable Brick Building Challenge—to give them fun, fresh inspiration for what to build next!
Whether your kids love LEGO or other similar building bricks, this challenge gives them 30 fun prompts—one for each day of the month! It’s the perfect way to keep them busy during summer break, rainy days (we get plenty of those here in the Pacific Northwest!), or even as part of your homeschool routine. I love this activity because it’s scree-free and it’s a great way to get your kids thinking outside of the box.
We’ve done this challenge ourselves many times, and my kids still get excited to check off each new idea. They love to turn it into a timed race (“Who can build the best dragon in 15 minutes?”). And yes—we are a full-on LEGO-obsessed family. My husband and I visited LEGOLAND in Denmark on our honeymoon, and we took the boys to LEGOLAND in California a few years ago. Not surprisingly, LEGO ends up on every birthday and holiday wish list for my boys!
So if your kids are looking for a fun creative outlet, this brick building challenge is the perfect way to spark their imagination.

How to Use This Brick Building Challenge
This challenge is super simple! Just print out the challenge and place it somewhere your kids won’t lose it, like on the fridge or tacked on the wall in their play area. Then, each day, they can pick a prompt and get to work building something inspired by that idea. There are 30 unique prompts, including things like:
- A robot
- A treehouse
- A donut
- A rocket
- An island
- A skyscraper
- …and lots more!
There’s no wrong way to interpret the prompts—part of the fun is seeing how creative kids can get with their own twist on each theme. You can go in order, or let them pick whichever idea sparks their interest that day. And if they want to tackle more than one in a day? Go for it!
Tips for Making it Even More Fun
- Set a time limit: What kind of creation can your kid build in under 10 minutes?
- Show and tell: Have your kids share their creations to the family after dinner each day.
- Join in! Grown-ups can play too (trust me—it’s fun!).
- Take photos: Capture their builds each day to create a month-long memory book or slideshow of their creations.
- Make it a group activity: Great for classrooms, playdates, homeschool co-ops, or even summer camps. Everyone can build from the same prompt and compare results!
Variations to Try
Want to keep the momentum going even after the 30-day challenge is over? Here are a few ideas:
- Create your own prompts: Let your kids brainstorm new build ideas and make their own challenge sheet.
- Build with themes: Try animal week, vehicle week, or space week!
- Mini builds only: Restrict the number of bricks or the size of the build to encourage creative problem solving.
- Story builds: Have kids write a short story or comic strip that goes along with their daily build.

You may want to look into the FIRST Robotics, which is world-wide.
They have several LEGO Leagues that you and your husband can get the boys involved with.

They are always looking for mentors and volunteers for both teams and competitions!
I was a mentor for 7 years.
I also helped to run many LEGO camps.
