You can encourage your kids (or yourself!) to read more with this free printable reading bingo! Everyone will have fun reading books and crossing them off this reading bingo card!
If you love reading and want to make it even more fun, these printable reading bingo cards ares a great way to shake up your reading routine! Whether you’re a kid or an adult, this challenge is perfect for bookworms. The bingo cards features 48 total prompts spread across two versions, including fun, open-ended challenges like “a funny book,” “a book about someone different than you,” and “a book that begins with C.”
As a reader who often gets “stuck” reading the same types of books, one of my favorite things about a reading challenge like this is that it encourages you to pick up books you might not normally read. Maybe it’s a different genre or an author you’ve never read before but everyone raves about. You might surprise yourself by finding a new favorite author or deciding you do like science fiction after all!
Things You’ll Need

- Books that fit the prompts (of course!)
- Markers (dry-erase markers work well if you laminate your card—see below!)
For the littlest readers, I’ve also created a special reading challenge for little kids. It’s a great way for younger readers to get excited about books!

How to Play Reading Bingo
- Print your bingo card.
- Find a prompt on the bingo card and read a book that works for the description. I tried to keep the prompts pretty open-ended, so for example, “a book about someone different than you” could be a celebrity memoir, a historical fiction novel about a nurse in WWII, or a young adult story featuring diverse characters.
- Mark off the squares as you complete each book.
- When you get five squares in a row, you get a bingo! If you’re a total bookworm like me, you may even want to try for blackout.
Tips for Success
- If you’re planning to use the bingo card multiple times, I highly recommend laminating it. This makes it more durable and allows you to use a dry-erase marker to check off the books you’ve read.
- The prompts are intentionally broad, so feel free to get creative with your book choices. Don’t stress if a book doesn’t seem to perfectly fit the prompt—the idea is more to get you thinking outside your regular box.
- If you’re looking for some motivation, set a goal to complete the bingo card in a certain amount of time. Reward yourself once you finish with a new book for your shelf!
- Don’t hesitate to mix up your reading material. You can easily fit in novellas, young adult novels, graphic novels, and adult fiction—all depending on your interests or age.
