Create these trendy DIY suede fringe earrings! Use faux suede and your cutting machine to add these stylish earrings to your wardrobe.
Making jewelry is one of my favorite things to do with my Cricut. My ears have become particularly sensitive to heavy earrings, though, since I had the boys. I’ve found that Cricut’s faux suede is the perfect way to create stylish earrings that weigh next to nothing.
This is how light these fringe earrings are: I was standing next to an elevator at the Cricut Mountain Make-a-Thon last weekend and looked at my friend Heidi and said, “Oh shoot! I meant to put on those earrings that I made!” She looked at me and said, “Um, you are wearing them.”
I couldn’t even feel them!
I made these on my Cricut Maker, but they cut just as beautifully on a Cricut Explore.

These earrings are super easy to make. Simply cut out the downloaded file on your Cricut (learn more about uploading SVGs to Cricut Design Space). Place the faux suede face up on a StrongGrip mat. You could also try faux leather. I think a green StandardGrip mat would also work, provided it still has a nice grip to it.
Using your poker, make a small hole at the top of the earring. It should be about 1/16″ from the top—pretty darn close to the edge!
Use your needle-nose pliers to work open the ring at the bottom of the fishhook earring. Slide the leaf onto the earring using the hole you just poked, and clamp the ring back in place.
Done! Designing, cutting, and assembling these earrings took me about 10 minutes. And since I did the design work for you, you just have to cut and make!

What blade did you use? I used the knife blade with my Maker and real suede leather (a thicker cut)–it almost worked, but got stuck at the end and pulled off a piece of fringe on both earrings.

Hi there!!
Depending on the thickness of the leather – you will need to choose the appropriate blade to cut with.
If the leather is less than 2-3 oz, you should be fine to cut with the fine point blade. I’ve also noticed if I put the right side down on the mat when cutting, it will stay put on the mat and not move while cutting.
If your leather is greater than 2-3 oz, then you will need to use the Knife Blade. There is a handy Cricut Help Page link below with these instructions:

Love the fringed earrings. But when I try to cut them, I get two arrow shaped pieces and a separate rectangle of “FRINGE”, instead of the fringe being a part of the earring. What am I doing wrong?
Charmaine Lawrence says
I am having same issue…the fringe is separate from the arrows?

I am having the same problem! Can not figure out what I am doing wrong.

You will want to select both the earring base and fringe cuts and then choose Attach.
This will force the cuts to stay in place on top of the earring base.

What setting did you use for this? I tried several, including faux suede, and my machine absolutely shredded my faux suede fabric. I can’t seem to find a good setting…
Liz, HLMS Reader Support says
There is actually a custom setting you can choose when you go to cut under ‘Faux Suede’ – this will do a lighter cut, but will double the cuts (2 times) so that it won’t shred your material like you’ve been experiencing.
Good Luck :)
