I had another good friend who commissioned a quilt for Christmas this year. Cheryl wanted to gift her soon-to-be granddaughter Lilah a Hello Kitty quilt. With rainbows. I could totally make that happen! I used super bright colors, but kept it modern and graphic with a simple design and white sashing.
I even found Hello Kitty fabric WITH RAINBOWS. The Interwebs are an amazing thing. I used bright green, yellow, and red polka dots to create an awesome rainbow of awesomeness. It’s bound in orange flowers, because more colors = somehow even more awesomeness. It’s quilted with simple diagonal lines.
The back is pieced using the fabric from the front — had just enough to create a really interesting back. It’s almost as cool as the front!
As an extra-special personalize touch, I appliqued Lilah’s name in red felt. Love it!
(Once again, my photos could use some work. Took them in the 30 seconds when it wasn’t raining the other day. The little Hello Kitties are holding their own umbrellas in the rain, very apropos. And thanks to my mom for being my quilt holder!)
I’m really pleased with how it turned out, and so was Cheryl and her daughter Halie. Merry Christmas, future little Lilah!
