Next weekend, my friends Steve and Valerie are getting married!
I’m very excited for them, and was happy to join Val for her bachelorette party this last weekend. I’ve known Steve a lot longer than Val — we’ve just become friends in the last few months. Because we haven’t been friends all that long, I felt a little strange buying her something saucy for her honeymoon.
So instead, I whipped up these two drawstring bags to help her pack!
I used Jeni Baker’s awesome Lined Drawstring Bag pattern. This was the first time I’ve made one of these bags, and they sewed up sew nicely that I’m sure I’ll make a bunch from now on — I like the idea of using them to wrap gifts! Something re-usable instead of paper that will just end up in the recycling or trash.
I started with the Heaven & Helsinki square fabric (sadly out of stock), and then matched a bunch of bright prints that went well with it. A long time ago I joined the Pink Castle Stash Stack club, which means I have a lot of great stash fabrics on hand all the time in a range of colors. Makes putting together projects like this super easy!
Before assembling the bags, I machine-appliquéd a felt “C” and a “D” onto the front panels, so that she could have one for clean lingerie, and one for dirty! Great for keeping everything separate in her suitcase.
I love how this project turned out — I might just make a set for me!
