Every year, author Brenda Novak holds an auction to benefit diabetes research. To date, they’ve raised $1.6 million! This year they are hoping to surpass $2 million. My friend Anna helps run the auction, and she asked if I would donate something to the auction. Since my last quilt-as-you-go pillow was such a hit for the Handmade for Newtown Auction, I thought I’d make another.
This time I used the warm colors in my stash, starting from cream and bursting out through yellow, orange, and red. The pillow measures 12″ x 12″ and is backed in orange dots.
This one has a bit of a literary bent — in the center of the flower is the start of a little story. Perfect for the bookworm in your life! Bidding opens on May 1, 2013 — I’ll post a link here and on Facebook once it goes live!
If you’d like to make your own pillow like this, I’ve outlined the technique in my Bloomin’ Quilt-As-You-Go Tutorial.
