I’m usually a fairly consistent blogger, but my world’s been, as the Fresh Prince might put it, flip-turned upside down this month. Thankfully it’s been so great in so many ways, but it’s kept me from being online as often as I usually am.
I stayed after work to get some stuff done today, and thought I’d check in here. I’m so behind in my month of [CULTIVATE] humility, that I don’t know what I could do to catch up. I may just suffice it to say that this month has left me absolutely humbled that God would bless me in the ways that He has. Truly, if I start to think about it too much, I start getting all weepy. We’re moving into March and my final [CULTIVATE] month — gratitude. I am overwhelmed with gratitude right now. It’s flowing from every part of me. In the same minute I’ll go from absolute giddiness to crying on my knees in thankfulness. To get to live this life…I am so very, very blessed.
Because getting engaged to the Bestest Man Ever and starting to plan for a wedding in August wasn’t enough, today I officially gave notice at my job. When I leave, I’ll have worked there for close to seven years. I don’t talk about my work much here — I’m an editor for a marketing company — because so much of what we do is under a non-disclosure agreement. It was a hard decision to leave everything there — a great employer, my best friend, wonderful pay, challenging work, gorgeous office, outstanding benefits. On paper, it may look like I’m losing my mind. Maybe I am a bit.
I’m not leaving until close to the wedding (I definitely wanted to give my boss time to fill my position and so I could train the new person), but I knew I needed to make that final leap. I’m leaving to follow my passions. After we get back from our honeymoon, I’m going to start working with Courage Worldwide Publishing, where I am going to help create books that will fight sex trafficking here in Sacramento and around the world. I’ll be making next to nothing, but to be able to be closely involved with an organization and cause that has gripped my heart since 2008. God is allowing me to combine my passion for helping these vulnerable, amazing women with my love of books and editing.
See why I’m crying? So, so grateful.
I’m also going to grow my sewing business. I’ve had quite a few commissions this year so far, and I’d love to take on more. Working forty hours a week means I get very little time behind my machine right now, and come later this year I’ll be able to really concentrate on growing my client base, learning new techniques, and connecting with others in the sewing community more. My friend Janice and I are also planning a sewing retreat for September, which we hope to expand and grow. Expect great things from Let’s Eat Grandpa in the future!
I will also start taking on contract editing work, which I’m excited about as well. I’ll have more information about that later this year. If you need someone to un-split your infinitives, I might be the girl for you.
So yeah. Big changes in 2013 for me! Words can’t describe how excited I am for the new life that awaits me later this year!
